2007.1.5 update

December 10, 2006 Inujima Project's on-site explanatory meeting for local residents was held at Inujima Community Center. Mr. Soichiro Fukutake, project's general director, talked about what Inujima Project was aiming at, then followed by the presentations of Mr. Hiroshi Sambuichi, the architect, and Yanagi, the artist. Yanagi emphasized how the "art" would play a role in this project, as he also presented his recent project called "Kyu-Naka-Kojo Project" in which the ruined waste incineration plant in Hiroshima would be transformed into a contemporary art center by Yanagi's direction. Local residents, mostly elderly people, then participated actively in the discussion, whose serious concern is population decrease in Inujima and its aging society. TV Asahi, one of the Japanese major tv networks, sent its camera crew to this meeting in Inujima, for the purpose of making a documentary of this project. The construction is scheduled to start in February 2007 in Inujima.
